Urban Elevator Service - Inspection Witnessing

As defined in ANSI A17.1, it is required by code that all tests be witnessed. All tests must be witnessed by a person qualified to do so and approved by the governing authorities. Approved witnesses may include Qualified Elevator Inspectors (Q.E.I.), Supervising Elevator Mechanics (S.E.M.) and/or someone approved by the local governing authority. Safety tests performed without the validity of witnessing will be deemed unacceptable.

Where it is admissible by the local governing authorities, Urban Elevator Service, Inc. has both Q.E.I.'s and S.E.M.'s in house for the purpose of witnessing. In a case where a third party witness is mandated by the state or local municipalities, we will perform the tests and schedule the witnessing with the appropriate services for a small additional fee. Metal tags, securely fastened to each component, which include the appropriate license number of the witness, shall serve as evidence of test completion.
