The Urban Elevator Service, Inc. Continuing Education Program is designed to offer field personnel access to training that will reinforce and broaden their knowledge and skill set in the areas of safety, technical applications, code compliance and general business practices. The program is structured to help our field technicians become more adept technically, work safer, and more easily contribute to the achievement of the company’s business goals. At the same time, great care has been taken to insure that our mechanics are able to use this program to meet the continuing education requirements for their Illinois State Elevator Mechanic License.
Courses will be offered at multiple times during the year during both working and non-working hours. For every hour of unpaid voluntary participation each employee will be offered a matching hour of paid class time during regular working hours up to a total of 6 paid hours per year.
All participants will be required to meet these minimum standards:
THE PROGRAM IS OPEN TO ALL URBAN EMPLOYEES. However in keeping with the programs primary objectives, should there ever be a need to limit class size, priority will be given to mechanics first, followed by apprentices, followed by field supervisors, followed by office personnel.
It is the goal of Urban Elevator Service, Inc. that all field technicians hold an OSHA 10 hour safety card. Any technician that does not currently hold a 10 hour card is required to complete this program during their first year of participation in the Continuing Education Program. While 10-hour training is made available to all employees at no cost, employees may obtain the training from any source they see fit as long as they provide Urban with documentation of program completion.
The 10 hour card program curriculum is very specific and mandated by OSHA. It consists of 10 hours of class time covering OSHA mandated subject matter. Several times during the year the 10 hour course will be offered at the Urban Elevator main office in a single day format. OSHA requirements state that break time cannot be included in the mandatory 10 hours of class time required for the program. Therefore each day-long session has been scheduled for 12 hours so that the instructor will have adequate time to meet all program requirements. This single day program will consist of a combination of paid and unpaid time.
The required classes are:
Of the 4 remaining hours of class time 2 of the following classes must be taken:
The remaining two hours of class time can be taken from any of the following:
**OSHA requires that the 10 hour card program be completed within a 6 month period. Please take this into consideration when scheduling your classes.
